Ben was born in North Yorkshire, England, and studied Photography at the University of the Arts London, under his tutor Mark LeBon, before taking his own approach to photography and experimentation in different photographic mediums after leaving university and moving to New York.
Ben started taking photograph’s in his teenage years of everything he could find, moulding the aesthetic of a photographic auteur and documenting youth culture for The Face magazine in London as his first commission when he was 19 years old.
Ben’s dynamic and exciting approach to his photography and moving image stand out greatly at a time of renewed optimism and excitement in the creative industry, finding the interesting in the normal and the modernity of the photographic and fashion industry in the modern age.
Ben's work reveals his unique ability to combine his visual imagery with intimate artistic interpretation, a result of his time working as a reportage photographer before he moved into fashion, his love of painting and his collage work. As a direct consequence of Ben's love for photography and his personality, his shoots and sets are full of positive energy, adventure and humour which is greatly valued by clients and colleagues alike.
Ben has lectured in the Philosophy of Fashion and Image at Leeds Beckett University, The University of the Arts London, Parsons School of Design New York & the University of the Arts, Ljubljana.
Whilst mentoring photography students in 2016 he developed a way to teach students with dyslexia to learn photography using colours instead of numbers, a practice he still uses to this day to help photography students and developing photographers on his team.
